A process for producing composite silver nanoparticles at a low temperature has been established to provide composite silver nanoparticles which are produced at a temperature of 100°C or below, a DTA peak temperature (T2) of 150°C or below, and a TG reduction initiation temperature (T1) in the range of T2 - 60 ≤ T1 ≤ T2, a process and apparatus for producing the composite silver nanopaste, a joining method, and a method for pattern formation. The composite silver nanoparticles are composite silver nanoparticles comprising an organic covering layer formed of an alcohol molecule residue, an alcohol molecule derivative and/or an alcohol molecule around the silver nucleus which develops a lattice image. The average particle diameter of the silver nucleus is 1 to 20 nm. The process comprises mixing silver salt fine particles into an excess alcohol solvent to prepare an excess alcohol solution and allowing the alcohol solution to react in a reaction chamber at a predetermined temperature for a predetermined period of time, whereby a silver nucleus is formed from the silver salt at a low temperature by the reduction action of the alcohol and an organic covering layer derived from the alcohol is formed around the silver nucleus.
