METHOD OF MANAGING A DEVICE FOR THE POST-TREATMENT OF EXHAUST GASES FROM AN ENGINE, INCLUDING A LOW-FREQUENCY MODE AND A HIGH-FREQUENCY MODE OF ALTERNATING THE STORAGE AND PURGE PHASES

The invention relates to a method for managing the operation of a device for the post-treatment of the exhaust gases of an internal combustion engine in a motor vehicle. The said device undergoes, alternately, according to a first mode of operation, a storage phase (2) and a purge phase (3), at a low frequency. According to the invention, this method is essentially characterized in that, according to a second mode of operation, the post-treatment device alternately undergoes the storage phase (4) and the purge phase (5), at a high frequency, the said second mode of operation replacing the first mode of operation when the mean effective pressure of the engine is at least of the order of 106 pascals and/or the vehicle speed is at least of the order of 120 kilometres per hour.
