The invention relates to methods that detects qualitatively and quantitatively trehalose with engineered Pseudomonas fluorescens strains. The strains are Pseudomonas fluorescens strains which comprise a reporter gene inserted in treA gene of operon trehalose, and in which treA expression is specifically inducible by trehalose.
