The invention relates to a composition for increasing sperm motility at low metal ion concentra- tion and/or decreasing sperm motility at high metal ion concentration, wherein said composition com- prises one or more metal ion selected from Co2+ and Ni2+ or compounds thereof as an active ingredient either alone or in combination with a physiologically acceptable carrier and optionally auxiliary ingre- dients. The invention includes the use of the above metal ions or compounds thereof for the preparation of a composition for increasing sperm motility in low concentration and decreasing sperm motility in high concentration, and the use of such compositions.
