An apparatus and a method for communication between an embedded cable modem and an embedded set-top box are provided to define the type of communication between the embedded cable modem and the embedded set-top box, thereby developing and upgrading products easily while keeping the compatibility between the embedded cable modem and the embedded set-top box. A digital broadcast receiving apparatus comprises an embedded cable modem and an embedded set-top box, wherein the digital broadcast receiving apparatus supports a DSG(Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification Set-top Gateway) method. The embedded cable modem and the embedded set-top box receive or transmit a plurality of messages from and to each other through a predetermined number of unidirectional ports according to the message type.
