A method and an apparatus for recovering heavy metals from mining pit water in an abandoned mine are provided to recover and remove heavy metals contained in mining pit water and oxidized water more efficiently and completely by using activated carbon, and to prevent water contamination or underground water contamination by adjusting a pH concentration of the mining pit water and oxidized water, thereby purifying the mining pit water and oxidized water. A method for recovering heavy metals from mining pit water in an abandoned mine comprises: a heavy metal removing step(S100) of contacting heavy metal-contained mining pit water or oxidized water with activated carbon, thereby adsorbing the heavy metals contained in the mining pit water or oxidized water onto the activated carbon to remove the heavy metals; a heavy metal precipitating step(S200) of purifying the mining pit water or oxidized water by precipitating a trace amount of heavy metals that has not been adsorbed onto the activated carbon while maintaining a pH of the mining pit water or oxidized water to a range of 6.5 to 7.5 by passing the heavy metal-removed mining pit water or oxidized water through CaO and quartz porphyry powder; and a purification step(S300) of passing the mining pit water or oxidized water from which the trace amount of heavy metals that has been precipitated and removed through a purification tank in which sand, gravel, and activated carbon are sequentially stacked to purify the mining pit water or oxidized water.
