An optical transponder for interfacing a multi protocol signal and a method therefor are provided to interface a STM-64/OC-192 signal, an OTU2 signal and a 10GbE signal. A reception clock generating unit(210) produces clocks on a receiving path. An optical transceiver(220) performs the photoelectric-conversion for an input signal and multiplexes/de-multiplexes the input signal. A controller(270) performs a control operation so as to determine the operation mode of an OTH framer(230) and SDH/SONET framer(240) according to a clock comparison signal of a clock signal comparison unit(222). If the fact that the input signal is an OTH signal is confirmed through the clock comparison signal, the controller sets the operation mode of the OTH framer to process the input signal. The controller outputs the second selection control signal for clock oscillation to process the OTH signal among the first to third frequency calibration oscillators to the second selecting unit. The second selecting unit selects a frequency calibration oscillator for performing the clock oscillation to process the OTH signal according to the second selection control signal.
