APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR LIMITING NUMBER OF SUBSCRIBER BASED ON USER CLASS IN BROADBAND WIRELESS COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

An apparatus and a method for limiting the number of subscribers based on user class in a broadband wireless communication system are provided to enable a base station of a broad band wireless communication system to limit the number of maximum allowable subscribers each sub cell based on user class. A base station negotiates ranging and capability with an initial connection terminal(303), and inspects whether or not the user class ID for the terminal is received from a base station controller(305). When receiving user class ID for the terminal, the base station checks over whether or not the number of current subscribers of user class corresponding to the received user class ID exceeds the critical value for the number of maximum initial connection allowable subscribers of a corresponding user class(307). If so, the base station completes an initial connection procedure by performing the registration of the terminal and sets up the terminal in an idle mode(309).
