A method for deciding the backoff time in a wireless sensor network and a channel access method using the same are provided to make transmission data have different Gaussian distributions according to each data transmission priority, thereby adjusting the mean delay time of data to be transmitted in the wireless sensor network. Each node on a wireless sensor network respectively initializes the basic values of the NB(Number of Backoffs), CW(Contention Window) and BE(Backoff Exponent) as 0, 2 and macMinBE(701), confirms the priority of data to be transmitted on the wireless sensor network(702), and then selects a corresponding mean value and variance to set up a Gaussian function(703). Each node determines a backoff time random in a backoff time section by using the Gaussian function(704).
