A parallel searching apparatus for obtaining initial synchronization and a method thereof are provided to control the number of complex values inputted to a correlation detector in a detector by having a MUX(Multiplexer) controller in a DS-CDMA(Direct Sequence-Code Division Multiple Access) UWB(Ultra Wide Band) receiver, thereby designing and operating parallel processing structures of 24/k. A parallel searching apparatus comprises a correlation detector(50), a synchronization discriminator(60), a combine mark/sync location detector(70) and a MUX controller(80). The correlation detector selects only complex values of L+L/k of complex values of 2L according to a MUX signal. And the correlation detector perform a correlation operation with a spreading code having length L to generate reverse spreading symbols of L/k. The MUX controller generates the MUX signal for successively selecting the complex values of the L+L/k among the complex values of 2L.
