A composition for manufacturing silicon carbide-based porous body is provided to reduce manufacturing costs by being heat-treated at a low temperature under an oxidizing atmosphere. A composition for manufacturing silicon carbide-based porous body comprises a necking agent containing 2-10 parts of silicon powder, 5-30 parts of alumina sol(or alumina powder) and 8-40 parts of beta-silicon carbide(beta-SiC) powder coated with silica on a basis of 100 parts of alpha-silicon carbide(alpha-SiC) particle by weight. The composition for manufacturing silicon carbide-based porous body additionally contains 5-15 parts of organic binder. The alumina sol includes 5-40 parts of solid alumina by weight.
