A floating point processor for operating nonlinear functions and a method for operating the nonlinear functions by using the processor are provided to design a numerical value operating module including an adder, a subtracter, a multiplier and a divider, thereby obtaining nonlinear functions for robot control through a successive operation. An instruction decoder(3) separately analyzes an instruction code of an operation program stored in a memory(1) based on an opcode address and an operand address. The instruction decoder outputs a control signal for controlling each module for instruction execution. A function unit(5) performs a numerical value operation, a logic operation and format conversion based on single precision.
