A method for performing viewing limitation to form a channel map in an IPTV receiver and a device therefor are provided to enable viewing limitation on a virtual channel instead of contents, thereby pursuing a user's convenience. Master service information including a first element that defines a location of a virtual channel map table is received in a server(130). The first element included in the received master service information able is parsed. Based on the parsed location element, the virtual channel map table including a second element that defines a location of a virtual channel technology table is received. The second element is parsed within the received virtual channel map table. Based on the parsed second element, the virtual channel technology table including a third element indicative of a default parental guidance rating of a virtual channel service is received.
