PROCEDURE FOR TRANSCODING MPEG-2 MAIN PROFILE INTO H.264/AVC BASELINE PROFILE

A procedure for transcoding an MPEG-2 main profile into an H.264/AVC baseline profile is provided to reduce the calculation complexity while minimizing the deterioration of image quality by using a selection method based on the complexity of the reference region and the selection of the adaptive search region. A predictive motion vector for a current macro block is obtained by using a motion vector in an MPEG-2 main profile(S11), and a search range in a reference frame is determined by using a prediction motion vector(S12). A block mode of the current macro block is determined by using the block mode information of the macro blocks included in the search range(S13).
