An algorithm and a system for detecting line-to-earth fault in an ungrounded power distribution system are provided to divide fault section and reduce fault detecting time by detecting fault in a power distribution system at a remote site. A fault in a power distribution line is recognized by computing zero-phase voltage in an ungrounded power distribution line. When the fault is recognized, zero-phase current in each opening/closing device is measured and a fault section is determined. A zero-phase voltage and a zero-phase voltage are computed in each installation point of the opening/closing device in the power distribution line.
