A mobile communication terminal for performing a special effect communication function and a method thereof are provided to make a call more intimate with the other party possible. An output unit(170) outputs a special effect list. An input unit(160) receives a selection for a special effect mode from the special effect list. A controller(140) transmits a reserved word corresponding to the special effect mode to a terminal of the other party. The special effect mode is one or more of a vibration mode, a light emitting mode and an effective sound mode.
