A pharmaceutical composition for treating or preventing gastritis, a gastric ulcer and a duodenal ulcer contains an extract of Lonicera japonica THUNB. as an active ingredient; and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier, excipient or diluent. Preferably the extract of Lonicera japonica THUNB. is extracted by using a solvent selected from water, ethanol, methanol, butanol and ethyl acetate.
