AUTOMATED WIDE AREA SURVEILLANCE SYSTEM USING PTZ CAMERA AND METHOD THEREFOR

An automated wide area surveillance system using a PTZ camera and a method thereof are provided to use a function of the PTZ camera maximally through image analysis of a computer and automatic PTZ control. A wide surveillance system sets a sensing area and a sensing regulation of an event that a user wants to surveil by using a PTZ camera image. The wide surveillance system analyzes an image signal received from an PTZ camera to sense an event occurring in a surveillance area(S102). The wide surveillance system determines whether an event is sensed(S103). The sensed event information is transmitted to a control/monitoring terminal when sensing an event(S104). The wide surveillance system performs automatic PTZ tracking of a moving object which generates an event(S105).
