An apparatus and a method for estimating a joint of a channel and a frequency offset based on an MB-OFDM(Multi-Band Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) system are provided to estimate the frequency offset by using an autocorrelation characteristic of the channel estimation result. A Fourier transformed OFDM signal is inputted to a channel estimator(37a). A channel estimator produces the channel estimation result by using the LMMSE(Linear Minimum Mean Square Error) channel estimation method. An autocorrelation unit(37b) calculates the autocorrelation value by using the result value from the channel estimator. A frequency offset estimator(37c) calculates the frequency offset with the maximum calculated in the autocorrelation unit and estimates the real frequency offset. The frequency offset estimator estimates the frequency offset by a binary search within the maximum and minimum range of the previously estimated frequency offset.
