Toughness-improved ceramics representing TiC-based or Ti(CN)-based ceramics are provided to improve toughness of cermet materials by increasing peripheral texture of core/rim structures. A powder mixture for toughness-improved ceramics comprises solid solution powder and two or more metal carbide, carbon nitride or their mixture selected from the group consisting of families IVa, Va, and Via of a periodic table while titanium is selected. The solid solution powder is prepared by nitrifying, carbonizing or reducing metal oxide as a raw material of the solid solution powder. A cermet powder mixture contains cermet powder, one or more metal selected from the group consisting of Ni, Co and Fe and two or more metal carbide, carbon nitride or their mixture selected among families IVa, Va, and Via of the periodic table while the titanium is selected.
