1. A method for use with a Voice over IP (VoIP) connection established via a radio interface with a mobile radio station (3), comprising the step of determining the current radio communication conditions associated with this VoIP connection, characterized in that it comprises the steps of ! determining a modulation and coding scheme (MCS) for a portion of VoIP information to be transmitted over the VoIP connection based on the determined current radio communication conditions; ! selecting a VoIP speech coding mode for a portion of the VoIP connection based at least in part on the determined modulation and coding scheme, this VoIP speech coding mode having an associated bit rate; ! encode the VoIP speech into a variable number of VoIP encoded frames using the selected VoIP speech encoding mode, the variable number of VoIP encoded frames depending on said specific MCS; ! include the mentioned number of encoded VoIP frames in the VoIP packet for transport over the VoIP connection; ! use a system such as GPRS or EDGE, radio channel resources to support connections, which include time slots; ! encode VoIP speech using a customizable multi-rate (AMR) encoder / decoder (codec) (82); ! determine the number of time slots to use when transmitting a VoIP packet and! are used for one time slot more than the aforementioned certain number to transmit a VoIP packet. ! 2. The method according to claim 1, characterized in that said variable number of encoded VoIP frames is the optimal number to maximize the number of VoIP bits included in the radio block transmitted via the radio interface
