In the present invention, there is disclosed a metal mold opening/closing mechanisms for an I.S. machine having a plurality of individual sections, each section comprising a section frame (11A), a pair of opposite metal mold holding mechanisms (16) being supported on the apex (94) of the section frame (11A) in such a manner that metal mold may be rectilinearly displaced between separated retraction positions where the respective metal mold holding mechanisms (16) are arranged in start positions and advance positions where the metal molds held by the metal mold holding mechanisms (16) are forcibly engaged wherein the supporting means are formed by the section frame (11A) comprising a housing (90) extending upward from a base portion (93), a first and second round shafts (50C) provided with bearings (170) disposed within the housing (90) and supporting said round shafts (50C) that are situated parallel to each another in horizontal direction relative to sliding feed of the mold holding mechanisms (16) wherein said mold holding mechanisms (16) are secured at free ends of the round shafts (50C) distant from the housing (90). The invention also relates to a mold carrier assembly attached to the supporting housing (90) having a pair of parallel horizontal elongate bores (91) situated on the top wall of the I.S. machine section frame (11A) comprising the mold holding mechanism (16) including upper and lower inserts (24) for supporting at least one mold half, the carrier (30) and a vertical rotary shaft (27) for mounting the inserts (24) onto the carrier (30) and the first and second parallel round shafts (50C) secured at their one end to the carrier (30) extending in horizontal direction wherein said first and second round shafts (50C) have free ends distant from the carrier (30) and is slidably mounted in horizontally extending bores (91) in the housing 90).
