The method involves emitting flashes towards a fiber bundle (1) by utilizing a light source (2). A fiber bundle evaluated part (6) is detected by a set of flashes. Light influenced by the fiber bundle is evaluated to evaluate quality of the fiber bundle. Another set of flashes detect the evaluated part and evaluate the quality of the evaluated part of the fiber bundle, where the flashes influenced by the fiber bundle are correlated. Interval among the two sets of the flashes is adjusted according to speed. An independent claim is also included for a device for optically evaluating quality of a longitudinal moving fiber bundle.
