The device e.g. wristwatch (1), has a microprocessor for processing data provided by a radio frequency signal receiver e.g. global positioning system receiver, and a magnetic compass. The compass provides an orientation signal to the data processing unit that controls direction indicating units constituted of LCD module or device (6) and hands (7) for indicating a direction for indicating a preferred orientation for searching visible satellites to a user when the device is in a reading position on the basis of processing of almanac and ephemeredes data, time data and the orientation signal. The microprocessor data processing unit is an 8-bit punch microprocessor or 8-bit CoolRISC-816 microprocessor. An independent claim is also included for a method for determining a position using an electronic device worn on a user's wrist.
