The method for determining the components of biodiesel in fuel involves the measurement of air ratio, lambda, in exhaust from a diesel combustion engine, computing determined expected values of the air ratio and determining the components of the biodiesel from the difference between the measured air ratio and the calculated determined expected value of the air ratio. Measurement of the air ratio may be achieved via a device that determines the residual oxygen in exhaust gas from the disel combustion engine.
