Nucleated poly-3-hydroxybutyric acid (PHB) fibers (I) comprising a mixture of 0.1-10.0 wt.% bacterially-produced (bp-PHB) with a wt.-average molecular wt. (M w) of up to 8000 g/mol (II) and 99.9-90.0 wt.% bp-PHB with an M wof at least 100000 g/mol (III), in which the fibers are crystallised essentially entirely in the alpha - and beta -modification. An independent claim is included for a method for the production of (I) by subjecting bp-PHB to electron beam radiation (EBR) with a dose of 200-1500 kGy or gamma radiation with a dose of 600-4500 kGy, adding x = 0.1-10.0 wt.% of this irradiated PHB to (100 - x) wt.% unirradiated bp-PHB and then making fibers from the mixture, using a high stretch ratio (at least 1:4) during fiber production.
