The device (1) for applying single-layer or multi-layer curtains (4) with a liquid to pasty application medium on a moving paper-, cardboard- or other fibrous-material web, comprises an application unit (2) arranged above the fibrous-material web for delivering the curtain in a total discharge height, and a deflecting plate (6) and/or a collecting groove for collecting the curtain when starting and stopping the application medium. The application unit is spaced apart from the fibrous-material web. The deflecting plate and/or the collecting groove have an outline edge (7). The device (1) for applying single-layer or multi-layer curtains (4) with a liquid to pasty application medium on a moving paper-, cardboard- or other fibrous-material web, comprises an application unit (2) arranged above the fibrous-material web for delivering the curtain in a total discharge height, and a deflecting plate (6) and/or a collecting groove for collecting the curtain when starting and stopping the application medium. The application unit is spaced apart from the fibrous-material web. The deflecting plate and/or the collecting groove have an outline edge (7) penetrating the curtain. The deflection plate and/or the collecting groove are arranged, so that a partial-discharge height is reachable between the outline edge and the fibrous-material web. The collecting groove with the outline edge and/or the deflecting plate produces the partial-discharge height, which is less than 30% of the total discharge height. A bearing layer nozzle or a curtain-slot nozzle with a delivery slotted hole is provided as application unit for the application medium. A bearing point for the deflection plate is present at a lower side of the application unit. An end of the deflection plate represents a rotating point, and the free end of the deflection plate forms the outline edge. An inclined sliding plate, at which the lower side of the bearing point is present for the rotating point of the deflecting plate present under it, is arranged below the application unit in a direction of the fibrous-material web. The application unit is arranged to the collecting groove, which has a part penetrating the curtain and forming the outline edge.
