The grate bar (4) has a caustic surface (3) for a contact with burning property. An overlap element (8) is provided, which is brought in axial suspension with an overlap element of additional grate bar. The freedom of movement of the grate bar, other than the axial direction, is limited. The overlap element extends laterally from the grate bar. The extending overlap elements are provided in opposing directions from the grate bar. An independent claim is also included for a grate bar kit.
