The method involves detecting a set of line of responses (LORs) emitted from a three dimensional (3D) object, and transforming the LORs into a sinogram data. The data is back-projected with a set of projection angles for producing an image data for the object using symmetry properties in coordinate space. Pixels of image plane for each of the angles are filled with the sinogram data, and a coordinate axis of the plane is rotated with related angle. The produced image data is projected with the projection angles using the properties for transforming the image data into another sinogram data. An independent claim is also included for an apparatus for reconstructing a three-dimensional (3D) image, comprising a detecting unit.
