A sensor unit (6) has a sensor element (11), which lies in a light path of an infrared radiation emitted by a pot wall of a cooking container (8) placed on the cooking point. The sensor value is transferred to a controlling device. The sensor element is activated during a traveling movement between a rest position and an operating position. The radiation values are transmitted into a filling height area in the cooking container of the controlling device. The radiation values are evaluated for controlling a heating energy.
