The device has an adjusting device (10) mechanically acting as a handle, and a latching device fixes the adjusting device. The adjusting device includes two pressurizing pieces (11) for directly mechanically acting at the handle. The pressurizing pieces are movable at a distance to each other at two guide paths (30), which are arranged parallel to each other. Each of the pressurizing pieces is acted with a constantly working force, which is directed along the guide path of the respective pressurizing piece towards another pressurizing piece. An independent claim is also included for a method for switching a circuit-breaker.
