The invention relates to a method and a device for the catalytic purification of biogenic or anthropogenic methane-containing gases, in particular landfill gases. The invention is based on first heating the gas and then subjecting it to combined catalytic oxidation and hydrolysis, whereby the minor components contained in the gas are decomposed to carbon dioxide, water and acidic reaction products and subsequently separated off.
