The light has an interface (40) for receiving parameter data, which define dynamic range for control signals. A parameter setting device (42) sets a parameter e.g. starting address of a serial data protocol, of the light using the data over a radio remote control (10). A controllable lamp (44) e.g. mercury arc lamp, emits light and includes LEDs. A control input receives control data for the lamp using the control data. A controller (48) is programmed such that a reaction to control of the control data depends on the parameter. The interface is remote-controlled by the radio remote control. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for operating a programmable light (2) a computer program comprising computer code for operating a programmable light.
