The method involves transferring operation of an emergency stop switch (12) and information of a shelter (14) to regions (2) navigating guideless transport systems (6). A position of each transport system within the region is determined by a radio transmitter (16) of a wireless local area network (WLAN), and the determined position is compared with the shelter belonging to the switch. The transport system whose determined position falls within the shelter, is stopped.
