The method involves utilizing a set of metallic sheets as a shielding wall (1), where each sheet includes multiple carriages. The sheets are connected with strips made of a durable waterproof material. Hoists (7) having a common shaft (10) are fastened to a wall of a building via the shielding wall. Staves (9) have an end fixed with a supporting pivot, and another end connected to an upper edge of upper sheets, at the wall of the building. Sealing strips contact the metallic sheets, and are provided in the ground and at walls of the building. An independent claim is also included for a device for sealing an area against flooding of water.
