The method involves providing a navigation device, which outputs directional information and detecting continuous response of a driver of a vehicle within a preset time period utilizing the output directional information. Repeated outputting of the directional information is prevented when the response of the driver is detected within the preset time period, where the response of the driver concerns initialization of driving direction change of the vehicle by activating a direction indicator and/or by actuating a steering wheel of the vehicle. An independent claim is also included for a navigation device for a vehicle with an outputting device for outputting directional information.
