The method involves pressurizing a high pressure inlet (114) and a return line (116) of a fuel injector (110) with a defined high pressure or low pressure by a fluid medium e.g. air. A temporal pressure change of the fluid medium at the high pressure inlet and the return line is registered, where a tightness and a leakage rate of the fuel injector is inferred from the temporal pressure change. An independent claim is also included for a kit for testing a fuel injector, comprising a pressure source.
