The method involves providing an electric drive (1) with an electric motor (3) that is switchable by a converter unit (2) of the drive over a line (4) to an electrical supply voltage (U). A pulse width is determined depending on the rotary speed value and a rotary speed-cyclic time-relationship of a cycle time and on a current desired value and the cycle time. The converter unit is controlled such that the motor is switched on over the line to the voltage by the converter unit during the pulse width, and is switched off to the voltage during the difference of cycle time and pulse width. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a computer program comprising a set of instructions to perform a method for operating a control device of an electric drive (2) a data storage medium comprising a set of instructions to perform a method for operating the control device of the electric drive.
