The system has an exhaust gas routing system with a conduit region (30) for direct delivery of combustion exhaust gas, and another conduit region (32), which is guided to a heat exchanger region (34), where heat transported by the heat exchanger region in the combustion exhaust gas is transferable to a fluid that is to be heated. A valve arrangement (38) and an electromagnetically working valve gear (40) are provided for selective releasing/locking of the conduit regions to/against flow by the combustion exhaust gas. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a heating system.
