The device has a cap arranged in a work-piece, where data memory is enclosed in the cap. The data memory is selectable, recordable and formed as a passive transponder. The cap is formed as a cylindrical component, and comprises a temperature-constant shell made of ceramics. The data memory is cast in the cap by a casting resin and fixed in the cap by thermal-selective vacuum casting. The casting is implemented as mirror casting, so that the casting compound locks the cap concisely. An independent claim is also included for a method for individualizing and/or identifying a work piece.
