The device has an electronic opto-receiver, and a lens arranged on the electronic opto-receiver. A light source and a holder for an optical data carrier are arranged spatially from the lens. The light source is arranged adjacent to the lens. A portion of light emitted from the light source strikes on a surface of the optical data carrier arranged on the holder. The electronic opto-receiver, lens, light source and holder are arranged in such a manner that the lens coverage detects no direct reflexes and bending reflexes of the light reflected by the surface of the optical data carrier.
