The key has positioning unit comprising a plate-shaped element i.e. material insert (15), which is inserted into a key body (2) and connected with the key body. Specific weight of the plate-shaped element is different from a material of the key body, where the element is formed from a multi-layered wood composite material i.e. pressed wood. A positioned weight is inserted into the element, and a recess (19a) is formed on the plate-shaped element in order to adjust a predetermined working resistance of the key. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing a key for a music instrument.
