The device (1) has an axial regulator (5), which axially drives an associated drive spindle (2) in a direction of device central axis, where central axis of the regulator and the device central axis run in a coaxial manner. The drive spindle is connected to a tool e.g. cutter. A drive motor (3) drives the associated drive spindle in a rotatory manner, and is axially supported in a module housing (8) in a moveable manner. The drive motor is axially displaced in the module housing by driving the regulator cooperating with the drive spindle along the device central axis.
