Fabric or similar composite material (I) with at least two layers bonded together over the whole surface and comprising (A) a layer of material of exact size and (B) a layer of material which is dimensionally unstable under the action of liquid and/or temperature, in which layer (B) is subjected to the action of liquid and/or temperature after bonding with (A), so that layer (A) is given a surface structure as a result of the effect of liquid and/or temperature on layer (B). An independent claim is included for a method as described above for the production of (I).
