The device has a tiltable flap (14) in an exhaust pipe coupled in an end point position over a return spring i.e. torsion bar (22), and changing a flow through a cross section. The spring is accommodated in a hollow pivot axle (16) sealed opposite to an exhaust gas in the pipe. An axial end (26) of the spring is fastened to an axial end of the axle. An opposite end (24) of the spring is attached or torque-proofly fixed to a swivel drive (28). A thermal isolation (34) is provided between the spring and the axle, where the isolation consists of inorganic silicate-based substances.
