The method involves loading a pulse width-modulated metering signal (s D) to a metering valve for determining the metering of reagent in an exhaust gas region (13) of an internal-combustion engine (10) or preliminary stage of the reagent. The temperature and operating voltage (u B) of electromagnets (23) in the metering valve, are measured during definition of the pulse time of the metering signal which determines the opening duration of the metering valve, where the reagent pressure is provided during definition of pulse time.
