The boiler (11), with connected heating (17) and charging (18,19) circuits, has a combustion zone (2) using fossil fuel. At least one switch system, in the first position, connects the space heating return flow (36) with the charging return flow (37) to couple the heating and charging circuits together to transfer energy from the hot water storage (5,7) through the charging circuit into the heating circuit.
