The engine has a rocker arm bridge (14) arranged and formed such that inlet valves (10, 12) of a working cylinder and/or outlet valves of the cylinder are actuated together over the bridge. A rocker (24) tiltable at the bridge around a pivot axis (22) is arranged such that a cam shaft (32) with a cam acts on the rocker in an area (25) spaced from the pivot axis and another cam shaft (36) acts on the rocker at another area (27) spaced from the pivot axis over the cam. The areas are arranged at opposite sides of the rocker with respect to the pivot axis and designed as roller actuating systems.
