The device has a four-joint linkage (16) co-operating with a structure (2) of a passenger car. The four-joint linkage is connected to a control lever (18) that is hingedly linked to the structure by a crank lever, and is in operative connection with a joint of the linkage and a guiding unit (20), which is aligned in motor vehicle e.g. passenger car, longitudinal direction. The control lever possesses angle sections with an obtuse angle, and the guiding unit is formed as a linear guide. A convertible-top compartment cover (10) is movable from a closing position to an opening position.
