The refractometer has a light source in an irradiating side, optical elements, and a deflection lens i.e. dove prism, arranged in a side opposite to an illumination lens (2) producing a parallel beam of rays (8). The deflection lens deflects the parallel beam of rays back to the irradiating side by a window (3), process fluid (4) and a measuring prism (6) i.e. biprism. The illuminating lens, an imaging lens (7) and a detector section (9) are arranged on the illuminating side, where only one inlet is necessary for a process medium.
